[ Winners of the 2007 THELONIOUS MONK INSTITUTE jazz composition competition ]



The BandA ecLectics is an ensemble of international musicians with diverse music and ethnic backgrounds.
Their live performances involve original, through composed material fused with improvisation.
The textures, the rhythms and the players spring out of affiliation with jazz, various world traditions, and certain film and classical music. The number of band members can be flexible.



The number of musicians can be flexible between 5 and 11, according to the venue and budget

The BandA ecLectics were put together on January 2007 by pianist-composer Petros Sakelliou.
The group is comprised of a selection of professional musicians with diverse affiliations ranging from jazz to the folk music of Greece, Latin America and Spain, to classical music as well as improvisation.

The band recorded a 7 track album on May 31st 2007, named "Angeles Los Boston". The cd got released in June 2007.

Shortly after the cd release, one of the tracks, namely “Swingalong”, was announced winner of
the 2007 THELONIOUS MONK INSTITUTE jazz composition competition.

The band flew to Los Angeles (October, 2007) and performed the winning composition at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, as part of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz event, 2007 trumpet competition and tribute to Herbie Hancock. The event’s attendance was approximately 3,600 people.

The group is currently booking the upcoming season, while preparing to record a new album.


A piano, 4 chairs.
For large venues we'll require a PA system and 5-15 microphones, depending on the space.
For small venues we would play acoustically with our own equipment.
